Our Poppie Goes To Italy!

Personal message

**Thank you for the overwhelming response we have received over the last weeks. We've met our initial target of R45 000 sooner than we thought. And this gave us an idea... a little while ago myself and Donnet started working on a documentary about Poppie. The story will be exploring her personal history, her life today and of course her trip to Italy and how it will shape her life. With our new fundraising target of R100 000 we plan to invest the additional funds we raise into this documentary project. With Poppie’s blessing, a 50% share of all potential profits resulting from the documentary will go to her. We are proud to be able to tell her story.**
My name is Stan Engelbrecht, I'm 43 and I live in Cape Town. I am raising funds for my dear friend Poppie van As, an elderly underprivileged lady who has a small roadside 'roosterbrood' stand on the N1 in Laingsburg.
Poppie and I met by chance about 6 years ago, and I asked her to come and prepare her now-famous 'roosterbrood' at a few of the bicycling races I organise. Over the years she has made 'roosterbrood' at all my races, and she has become part of the family.
One of the events I organize is Eroica South Africa in Montagu, and of course Poppie was there to make 'roosterbrood' for the weary riders. Eroica is an Italian event that I manage locally. During their visit the Italian representatives were so impressed with Poppie, and so touched by her incredible life story, that they invited her to Gaiole, Italy to attend the main Eroica event as a special guest. Since Poppie might struggle travelling overseas on her own for the first time in her life, myself and my girlfriend Donnet will be escorting her.
Search for @poppievanas on Instagram and follow her adventure!
We've already shot some incredible footage of Poppie so far, and we're very excited about the prospect of our full-lenght documentary. Watch the first teaser for 'A Diamond in the Sand' - The Story Of Poppie Van As HERE
Since Poppie has never left the Western Cape in her life, we decided to take this opportunity to show her Italy for 10 days and take her on a road trip. It has always been her dream to travel overseas. At 63 and being from a poor community, she might never have the opportunity to do so again. Having known Poppie for 6 years I know that this is a dream-come-true for her, and this experience will change her life forever. Please be part of it!
If you donate R250 or more, Poppie will send you personal postcard all the way from Italy!
Eroica Italy have paid for Poppie's plane ticket, and will host her during the 3-day event. We will be flying from Cape Town to Bologna on 25 September 2019, and needed to raise about R45 000 to make the rest of Poppie's once-in-a-lifetime trip to Italy as special as possible.
The first R45 000 we've raised here will go towards Poppie's visa appointment, travel to-and-from Cape Town, getting her a few things that will make her comfortable on her first airplane trip, and her first visit overseas! Just some suitable clothing and sensible shoes maybe. We want her to feel comfortable and confident.
In Italy the funds will provide a bit of spending money for Poppie, and will go towards accommodation, food and travel expenses while we are there. We have this one opportunity to show her Venice, Rome, and some of the wonderful things Italy has to offer, and it would be sad to miss out on something simply because we can't afford it. We want to give Poppie the best, richest possible experience, and every little bit will help to make this a life-changing trip for her.
If you pass there on the N1, please be sure to stop and buy a 'roosterbrood' or 3 - she would love to meet you!

Team Tess beating MS

Personal message

I am Tess (officially Natercia) Rodrigues and I live in Cape Town.
If it itches, I can't scratch but with fetal stem cell treatment, I may be able to clap my hands, get jiggy with it and even pick my nose, if I must. I need your help to get me there.
I have booked my treatment for 23 Sep 2019.
Funds raised will be used as follows:
Treatment – R208,000
Accommodation – R12,000
Flights – R40,000
Just imagine, for one moment, I return from the Ukraine and I can use my hands!
In March 2014 I was diagnosed with a very aggressive form of Secondary Progressive Multiple Sclerosis and in just two years following my diagnosis, I became completely disabled.

There is currently no FDA approved medication that will alter the progression of Secondary Progressive Multiple Sclerosis, repair the damaged myelin or restore some mobility.
Fetal stem cell transplant [FSCT] may stop the progression of this disease and even reverse some of my disabilities.
In July 2019 I came across a YouTube documentary entitled The God Cells, purely by accident, as I was looking for something simple to fall asleep to, after all it was 1 o'clock in the morning.
Needless to say, the next morning was spent researching FSCT. There are some naysayers who don't believe in this treatment, but the voices of those who have undergone this treatment are fortunately a lot louder. Furthermore, a medical research report I read in the The National Center for Biotechnology Information eased my fears and encouraged me to go forth and booked my treatment for 23 Sep 2019.
I believe that I am an ideal candidate for FSCT as I follow a very clean lifestyle and anti-inflammatory, nutritious diet. The new stem cells will, therefore, have a good environment to multiply in and fix what needs fixing.
Any improvement is better than further deterioration. Should the results of this treatment be successful on me, who has such an aggressive form of this disease, I am committed to assisting other MS sufferers to go for treatment. Together we can beat MS!
I have elected to undergo FSCT in the Ukraine as their doctors founded this treatment and have been performing it for over 20 years.
Funds will be paid to a separate savings account in my name and dispersed accordingly.

100 of Mzansi's famous faces have banded together to take the Special Olympics Polar Plunge, which will see them jump into an icy swimming pool in support of athletes.

The challenge will take place on August 31 and will see the likes of Kim Jayde, Nomuzi Mabena, Gigi Lamayne, Kay Sibiya, Rouge and others taking the plunge.

The event was started three years ago to raise awareness about Special Olympics South Africa and the work  they do in using sport to empower over 55 000 athletes living with an intellectual disability in South Africa.

Some of the plungers will also be fundraising to support their own dives by asking their supporters to sponsor them. The public can go online and sponsor their favourite celebrity at https://www.backabuddy.co.za/champion/project/polar-plunge.
